Darren joined Trimax with a strong technical background and a hands-on understanding of the machinery our customers rely on every day. Starting his career as an auto electrician before moving into a vineyard mechanic role, Darren spent years working directly with mowers and mulchers in real-world environments. That experience naturally led him to where he is today – promoting and supporting a quality, New Zealand-made product he genuinely believes in.
For Darren, the move into the industry was driven by a desire for change and growth. “I was looking for something different, with room to develop,” he explains. Joining Trimax felt like the right fit from the start. “It aligned with my values, had a great story behind it, and being NZ made was a huge bonus.”
Since coming on board, Darren has already had some standout moments. One highlight that sticks with him is delivering a Pegasus mower to a private racetrack – a unique experience that reflects the diverse range of customers Trimax supports. Looking back further, he also takes pride in becoming a qualified auto electrical engineer, a milestone that continues to shape his approach today.
Through his time in the field, Darren has learned that no two customers are the same – even within the same industry. “Everyone has different needs and ways of doing things,” he says. “It’s about listening, understanding their approach, and then guiding them toward the right equipment.” He’s also seen how easy it is for customers to feel overwhelmed by the number of options available, along with common misconceptions about what machines can and can’t do.
His mechanical background gives him a real advantage when working with customers. Having spent years on the tools, Darren understands how machines operate and what can go wrong, allowing him to offer practical advice not just on choosing the right equipment, but also on maintenance and troubleshooting.
What Darren enjoys most about his role is the variety it brings. “Meeting new people and seeing new places is a big part of it,” he says. Whether he’s working with contractors, councils, or turf managers, his approach is always the same – listen first. “It’s about understanding their end goals and how they like to work before recommending something. There’s no point suggesting a solution that doesn’t fit.”
He believes what sets Trimax apart is its strong foundation as a family-owned New Zealand business, combined with a genuine commitment to innovation and customer connection. “We’re always looking for a better way, and we stay close to our customers.”
For Darren, building trust comes down to being both knowledgeable and relatable. “Customers want someone who understands the product but is also easy to deal with,” he explains. He focuses on getting to know each customer – their challenges, their processes, and even their interests – to build a connection that goes beyond just the sale.
Outside of work, Darren enjoys getting out on his mountain bike or spending time outdoors whenever he can. And for those who don’t know him well, there’s one unexpected hobby – he spends some of his spare time working on 90s Japanese cars.
With his practical experience, technical knowledge, and straightforward approach, Darren is focused on helping Trimax customers find solutions that truly work for them – and supporting them every step of the way.
Whether you’re looking for advice on mowing solutions, need help with your equipment, or just want to talk through your options, Darren is always happy to help.
